Platform comparison
FabriMatch vs Alibaba.com
Is FabriMatch an alternative to Alibaba.com for EU buyers?
FabriMatch is an alternative for EU buyers who want to compare named manufacturers in China and the EU, with an itemised platform fee. Choose between FabriMatch and Alibaba.com using the process, supplier access and service responsibilities your order requires.
Alibaba.com is the best-known B2B sourcing platform for Chinese suppliers, covering catalogue goods as well as custom orders, and it runs a payment-protection scheme called Trade Assurance. On supplier reach it is far ahead of us and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The difference is what each one is built around: Alibaba is a very large supplier marketplace where you do your own selection, ours is a smaller, gated one built around the EU buyer's quote, payment and paperwork.

Pick Alibaba.com when
- →You want the widest possible supplier pool, including catalogue and standard products, and are happy to run supplier selection yourself.
- →You are buying on price above everything else. Our fee, verification and payment hold are not built for a race to the lowest unit price.
- →You need a category or niche where our verified pool is still thin. As of October 2026 it is small and mostly in China.
Pick FabriMatch when
- →You are an EU-registered company buying custom parts from a drawing or CAD file and want a binding offer from a named producer within the hour window below.
- →You want EUR settlement through Stripe Connect and an EU-VAT invoice from one counterparty.
- →You want the platform's cost stated as a number (10%) before you accept, not left to be inferred from the supplier's price.
- →You want every producer to have cleared business verification before it can quote, with an on-site inspection for Chinese factories.
How do FabriMatch and Alibaba.com compare?
A published gross margin describes revenue after direct costs across a business or segment. It is not a quoted platform fee, a markup on your part, or evidence of savings. Compare offers using the same drawing, material, quantity, inspection requirements and delivery destination before deciding which supplier provides better value.
Rows where Alibaba.com is the stronger choice are marked. If a comparison page tells you it wins everything, it is an advert, not a comparison.
| Feature | FabriMatch | Alibaba.com |
|---|---|---|
| Supplier reach | Early. Verified pool is small and mostly Chinese; the count per material is published, including when it is thin | ★ Very large supplier base across catalogue and custom goods |
| Payment protection | Stripe Connect pays out to the factory after inspection approval and delivery; FabriMatch never holds the money | Trade Assurance: Alibaba says payment is held and released after the buyer confirms the order arrived in the expected condition, on eligible orders paid on Alibaba.com |
| When protection applies | On every order placed through the platform | Only for eligible orders where the supplier takes part in Trade Assurance; payment and communication should stay on the platform |
| Supplier verification | Business verification (KYB) and sanctions screening before a shop can quote; on-site inspection for Chinese factories | Verified Supplier status: an on-site check by a third-party inspection company, according to Alibaba. The page we read does not say what the check covers |
| Choosing the producer | A named producer on every offer; matching weights published at /trust/matching-algorithm | You search and shortlist suppliers yourself |
| Time to a binding offer | 2h to a binding offer from a real producer, or our fee is waived | Depends on the supplier; the pages we read state no response guarantee |
| Settlement and invoice | EUR through Stripe Connect, EU VAT invoice | Alibaba lists card, bank transfer (T/T), PayPal and other methods. The Trade Assurance pages we read do not state the settlement currency or EU VAT invoicing; confirm with the supplier |
| Platform fee to the buyer | 10% of the agreed price, included in the price on the offer and shown as its own line | Not stated on the Trade Assurance pages we read; the price you see is the supplier's |
| After delivery | 3 days to review the inspection before payment is released; a dispute freezes the payout | Alibaba's buyer page states a 30-day refund-request window after delivery, but its July 2026 article gives no deadline; check the current terms |
What is the same on every FabriMatch order
- A binding offer from a real producer within 2 hours, or our platform fee is waived on the resulting order.
- 10% platform fee, shown on the offer before you accept it — not discovered on the invoice.
- You pay through Stripe. The money goes to the factory's own Stripe account and is paid out to the factory only after you approve the inspection and the order is delivered — FabriMatch never holds it.
- EUR settlement, EU-VAT-compliant invoicing, KSeF and DAC7 filing.
Frequently asked questions
Alibaba has Trade Assurance. Isn't that the same protection you offer?
For the core mechanism, largely yes, and we say so. Alibaba states that on eligible orders paid on Alibaba.com the money is held and released after the buyer confirms the order arrived in the expected condition. What differs is the rest of the transaction: ours applies to every order on the platform rather than eligible ones, every producer has cleared business verification before it can quote, the offer is binding within 2 hours or our fee is waived, and you pay in EUR through Stripe Connect. The money stays in the factory’s Stripe account until inspection approval and delivery; FabriMatch never holds it.
Is Alibaba cheaper than FabriMatch?
We cannot tell you, and nobody can in general. On Alibaba you compare supplier prices yourself and the platform's cut is not shown to you. On FabriMatch the 10% fee is included in the price on the offer and shown as its own line. If the lowest unit price at any quality is what decides your order, Alibaba's breadth will probably serve you better than we will.
Does Alibaba verify its suppliers?
Alibaba says Verified Supplier status involves an on-site check by a third-party inspection company. The page we read does not name the firms or list what is checked, so we do not characterise how deep it goes. Ours is stated plainly: a business-registration and sanctions gate for every producer, plus an on-site inspection for Chinese factories, and the verified badge means that check passed and nothing else.
Can I use both?
Yes, and for catalogue or standard parts that is often sensible. Use FabriMatch for custom parts where you want a drawing priced by named producers in China and the EU on the same RFQ, with one invoice and Stripe Connect payment protection through inspection and delivery.
Do you have as many factories as Alibaba?
No. Our verified pool is small and mostly in China as of October 2026. The upload widget tells you how many verified shops run your material today, including when the honest answer is 'not many yet'.
