You can review CNC costs before changing the production country by asking suppliers to quote engineering-approved specification, quantity and schedule alternatives. No fixed saving follows from a country or platform fee: compare the total cost of acceptable parts delivered to the same destination.
Five questions to send with your RFQ
| Cost driver | What to request | What must stay controlled |
|---|---|---|
| Tolerances | Quote the current drawing and an approved revision | Functional fits and inspection criteria |
| Batch size | Separate setup cost and price at each quantity | Storage, cash flow and revision risk |
| Material | Quote an approved alternative grade and temper | Strength, corrosion and certification requirements |
| Finish | Itemise finishing and masking | Appearance, dimensions and service conditions |
| Schedule | Compare required and flexible delivery dates | The actual project deadline |
Approve the drawing before comparing prices
Ask the design owner which dimensions are critical. A cheaper quote based on a changed tolerance is not equivalent until that change is approved. Record the drawing revision in the supplier offer and inspection plan.
Compare the delivered total
Include tooling, inspection, packaging, freight and applicable taxes. Distinguish recoverable VAT from a cost when preparing your internal calculation.
A platform's reported gross margin does not measure your potential saving. Request quotes for the same drawing rather than subtracting a company margin from an order price.
Next step
Prepare an RFQ with the alternatives your engineering team can accept, then compare manufacturer offers. Read the current platform fee rules before acceptance. This guide does not claim measured customer savings; a published case study requires an attributable dataset and customer consent.
